Visiting Qatar soon? As part of the mandatory health insurance scheme introduced by the Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) in Qatar, with effect from the 1st of February 2023, all travelers and visitors including Hayya Card holders and their companions are now required to obtain health insurance policy which will protect them against from accidents and medical emergencies during their stay in Qatar. Visitors health insurance can be purchased from any insurance company registered with the Ministry of Public Health. Though it is possible to get an insurance when you arrived at Hamad International Airport (HIA), it is advisable to secure health insurance before traveling as some airline companies are not accepting passengers traveling to Qatar who fail to present a copy of health insurance policy.
***Hayya Card Holders and their Companions
Holders of Hayya cards and their companions are required to secure visitor’s insurance policies that cover the remaining period of the Hayya card entry permit, which is January 24th, 2024. For example, if a Hayya Card holder is planning to enter the State of Qatar on 1st March 2023, he/she should obtain an insurance policy for 11 months, and if he/she is planning to enter the country on 1 April 2023, he/she should obtain an insurance policy for 10 months, and so forth.

How much does Visitors Health Insurance costs?
- The premium for the Visitors Health Insurance policy is QAR 50 per month.
- The visitor can purchase additional coverage (Top-ups) as desired for extra premiums to be determined by the insurance companies.
What is covered by Visitor’s Health Insurance Policy?
- Emergency medical treatment:
Up to QAR 150,000 for the policy period and within the State of Qatar. - Emergency medical assistance with a sub-limit of QAR 35,000, includes:
• Emergency ambulance transportation within the State of Qatar, and where necessary.
• Medical evacuation to the individual’s country of residence. - COVID-19 and Quarantine:
a) Sub-limit up to QAR 50,000.
b) Covid-19 treatment for positive cases.
c) Quarantine expenses (for confirmed cases) are up to QAR 300 per day. - No waiting period is required under this document.
- Repatriation: In the event of the visitor’s death within the State of Qatar, the cost of repatriation is covered up to an amount of QAR 10,000.
- No copayment or deductibles required for any covered services as per the terms and conditions stipulated in the visitor’s health insurance policy.
Moreover, visitors’ health insurance policies offered by international insurance firms that have been approved by the Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) as well as insurance companies registered with the MOPH are both accepted. The visitor must make sure the international insurance coverage satisfies the MOPH’s requirements for acceptance, which include:
- The geographical coverage must include the State of Qatar.
- The policy is valid and cover the period of the full duration of visitor’s stay in the country.
- The policy covers emergency and accidents healthcare services with a limit of QAR 150,000, without deductibles or copayments.
- The policy covers COVID-19 with a limit of QAR 50,000.
- Presence of a physical proof of health insurance coverage (paper format of the policy) to be presented by the border authority and healthcare providers on demand.
