Qatar is a small but rich country located in the Middle East. It’s an amazing destination for travelers who are interested in experiencing the burgeoning Arab culture, dining at some of the world’s finest restaurants, and learning about the country’s fascinating history.
However, there are a few things that you should consider before planning a trip to Qatar.
1. Weather
Qatar is a desert country, which means that its summers can be incredibly hot and humid. If you’re planning a trip between May and September, be prepared for temperatures that can reach up to 45 degrees Celsius (113 Fahrenheit). It’s best to plan your trip during the winter months, from October to April, when it’s cooler and more pleasant.
2. Visa
Before you travel to Qatar, make sure you have obtained the necessary visa for your stay. Depending on your nationality and the purpose of your visit, you may need a tourist visa, work visa, or business visa. It’s also important to note that visas for Qatar are not issued upon arrival, so you should plan to apply for one in advance.

4. Public Transportations
When it comes to transportation, there are various modes of transportation in the country that cater to the needs of its residents and visitors. The Doha Metro offers a convenient and affordable way to travel around the city of Doha as it is connected to Hamad International Airport. With three lines covering a combined length of around 85 kilometers and over 30 stations across the city, it provides easy access to major tourist destinations such as Souq Waqif, the Museum of Islamic Art, and Katara Cultural Village.
Taxis and Ride-Sharing apps such as Uber and Karwi Taxis are also available in the country.

If you are a photographer or photography enthusiast who enjoys using a DSLR to take pictures, you might want to think about getting a photography permit before traveling to Qatar because some well-known tourist destinations, including Katara, Mesheirb Downtown, and The Pearl Island, require one before allowing you to explore the area and take pictures.

6. Cultural Norms
Qatar is a conservative Muslim country, so it’s important to be mindful of local customs and cultural norms. Dress modestly when visiting public places, avoid public displays of affection, and be respectful of local traditions and practices. It’s also important to refrain from drinking alcohol in public places, as it’s illegal in Qatar.
7. Foods
Although though Qatar is an Arabic country, there are still a lot of restaurants there that serve international cuisines from other countries, like Asian foods (Chinese, Thai, Filipino, Indian, etc.). Some well-known fine-dining and fast food restaurants from USA and Europe are also available in the country.
However for a greater experience, I advise you to try some authentic local Arabic cuisine.

Arabic is the official language of Qatar, but English is widely spoken and understood. However, it’s always a good idea to learn a few basic Arabic phrases, such as greetings and expressions of gratitude, as it can help you connect with the locals.
9. Currency
The official currency of Qatar is the Qatari Riyal (QR), which is abbreviated as QAR. It’s best to bring Qatari Riyal with you or to exchange your currency at a bank or exchange bureau when you arrive in Qatar. Most major credit cards are also accepted in hotels and upscale restaurants.
In conclusion, Qatar is a fascinating and unique destination for travelers seeking an enriching cultural experience. By considering these factors before planning your trip, you can ensure a safe, enjoyable, and memorable visit to this amazing country.
