Singapore is a small island in Southeast Asia whose capital takes the same name and was named as the Top destination in 2015 by Lonely Planet.
Though the country is small in size, surprisingly there are plenty of things to do and to see while you are in the city. Singapore is a prosperous, well off city which is famous for its skyscrapers, bustling nightlife, tropical climate, and shopping experience. Even though Singapore is hugely populated, there are plenty of green parks and reserves in this wonderful garden city.
Here are some awesome things to do and see in Singapore:
1. Go Green at Garden’s by the Bay
The Gardens by the Bay is a nature park spanning 101 hectares (250 acres) in the Central Region of Singapore, adjacent to the Marina Reservoir. The park consists of three waterfront gardens: Bay South Garden (in Marina South), Bay East Garden (in Marina East) and Bay Central Garden (in Downtown Core and Kallang). The largest of the gardens is the Bay South Garden at 54 hectares (130 acres) designed by Grant Associates. Its Flower Dome is the largest glass greenhouse in the world.
Bay East Garden and Bay Central Garden are public spaces and are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The outdoor gardens at Bay South Garden are open daily from 5 AM to 2 AM and also are free to explore. Most of the south garden’s conservatories and attractions, however, are only open from 9 AM to 9 PM.
Visiting the outdoor gardens are free, you only need to buy a ticket if you want to visit the conservatories. Start your trip from Bay Front MRT Station and walk towards the entrance of the park. Follow the walking paths going around. Take your time and make sure to witness the glowing and dancing lights of the Super Trees at night.
YOU CAN BOOK YOUR TICKETS HERE.
2. Have fun in Universal Studios Singapore
Universal Studios is one of the most well-known attractions in Singapore. If you are looking for a thrilling experience and adventure, this is the right place for you. The theme park functions as a real-life movie-producing studio, making it a must-see for film and TV junkies. Back in the day, Universal Studios was little more than a one-ride pony, with its impressive Studio Tour taking center stage. Universal, however, has taken great strides to make this an all-day amusement park to please visitors of all ages.
Experience cutting-edge rides, shows, and attractions based on your favourite blockbuster films and television series, including Puss In Boots’ Giant Journey, Battlestar Galactica: HUMAN vs. CYLON™, TRANSFORMERS The Ride: The Ultimate 3D Battle, Jurassic Park Rapids Adventure™, Sesame Street Spaghetti Space Chase and more!
Operating Hours:
Monday-Sunday from 10:00 AM to 05:00 PM
YOU CAN BOOK YOUR TICKET HERE.
NOTE!
***From 6 April 2020 through 1 June 2020, Universal Studios Singapore will be temporarily closed in line with elevated safe distancing measures. ***
3. Take a selfie with the famous Singapore’s landmark Merlion
The Merlion’s body symbolises Singapore’s humble beginnings as a fishing village when it was called Temasek, which comes from the same root as the word tasek (‘lake’ in Malay).
Its head represents Singapore’s original name, Singapura, or ‘lion city’ in Malay.
Today, you can glimpse this legend at Merlion Park. Spouting water from its mouth, the Merlion statue stands tall at 8.6 metres and weighs 70 tonnes.
This icon is a must-see for tourists visiting Singapore, similar to other significant landmarks around the world.
4. Experience Chinese Culture in China Town, Singapore
Singapore is a multiracial and multicultural country with ethnic Chinese, Malays, and ethnic Indians. Chinese Singaporeans make up the majority of the population.
If you wish to experience Chinese culture in Singapore, Chinatown is the best place for you. There are plenty of shops wherein you can buy authentic Chinese souvenirs, food stalls, and Chinese restaurants if you are craving for Chinese cuisines.
This age-old precinct is home to myriad different cultures and is the only Chinatown in the world to boast a Buddhist temple, a mosque and a Hindu temple along a single street. Culture vultures looking to immerse themselves in Buddhism’s rich art and history should pay a visit to the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple & Museum.
5. Unleash Your Inner Foodie
What is special in Singaporean foods? According to my local friend, Singapore is especially renowned for its seafood. Chili crab and black pepper crab are two quintessential dishes that dominate the scene and are greatly recommended to tourists. Another favourite is the sambal stingray.
6. Check out Jewel!
So your trip is over and you need to go back to the airport to catch your flight. No problem if you checked in early because there is a place at Changi Airport called “Jewel” that you do not want to miss to see before leaving Singapore. You will never get bored just by staring at the calming waterfalls
Jewel includes gardens, attractions, a hotel, aviation facilities and more than 300 retail and dining facilities.
Hi. I have been to Singapore last year, unfortunately I was not able to make it to Universal Studios because of the bad weather condition that time. I am planning to spend another visit hopefully this year. Is it worth it going there?
Hi Dianne. Indeed it is worth visiting the Universal Studios. If you are an adventure seeker, Battlestar Galactica: Human vs Cylon ride is the best ride that gives you thrill!
Oh, just by looking at the photos I wanted to start to pack my bags and visit Singapore, lol. It looks so beautiful there.
I love Singapore best time to go is at CNY. Loved the botanical gardens so peaceful to walk around taking photos of igunas & beautiful flowers & trees. Seeing exotic birds in the mornings. Evenings i spent at Marina Bay going to the free concerts & seeing the fireworks & light shows. Plan to go back next year as the place is so clean & safe as a tourist & i like that all nationalities mix well with food & culture.
